Caridac Electrophysiology
Electrophysiology is the study of the heart’s electrical system. The coordinated contraction of the various chambers of the heart is controlled by the electrical system of the heart.
Disturbances within the electrical system are the cause of all arrhythmias (abnormal rates or rhythms of the beating of the heart) as the heart’s electrical system controls the rhythmic contractions that keep the blood pumping and circulating. Examples of arrhythmias include Tachycardia (the heart beats faster than normal), and Fibrillation (the rapid, chaotic beating of individual heart muscle fibers). These electrical impulses are controlled by the sinus node which is the heart's "natural pacemaker."
