Barbara Finley

Radiofrequency ablation patient

"I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation in 1999. The frequency and intensity of my fibrillation was troublesome and it had a very negative impact on my life. When you live with atrial fibrillation, it is like living with a "Terrorist." You never know when it will arrive, you don’t know how long it will last and there is nothing you can do to make it go away.
At the onset of this condition, I began to search for a way to make the symptoms manageable. My best hope was to find a cure. Most of my treatment had consisted of drug therapy with many unpleasant side effects. I traveled to four major medical centers in the United States for cardiology consultations. When I arrived at Marin General Hospital and met the medical staff in the cardiac electrophysiology lab, I knew immediately that my search for help was over. I felt that with this team I would receive the best possible care and have the most positive outcome. I was not disappointed.

The entire staff in the cardiac electrophysiology lab treated my husband and me with kindness and respect. We had many questions and anxieties about the procedure. All of our concerns were addressed in a most complete and professional manner. Because of the level of skill and competence exhibited by the team, I approached the procedure without fear and have had a very favorable outcome.

In 1996 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I know what it means to be frightened to the bone. I also know the role that hope plays in the healing process. Hope gives us courage to trust and proceed into the unknown; hope allows us to anticipate a healthy future. When you are in the presence and care of medical professionals who give you hope, then everything is possible. When I met the cardiac electrophysiology medical team, I felt a profound sense of hope and I knew that a cure was possible.

I am presently enjoying a life free of atrial fibrillation. I am so grateful to the medical team at Marin General hospital for making this possible. For the second time in my life, I am looking toward to a long and healthy life.

Richard Boas

AF ablation patient and his wife Jan

I have spent the last month trying to find the words to say "thank you." I know many AF ablations are performed each month, but the heart center might not realize the effect this has on patients and their families. The difference the ablation treatment made in our lives is amazing. I have my ‘old’ husband back. His good health has allowed us the freedom to travel and do the things we love. Thank you.
